About Anna

Hi! My name’s Anna, I’m 20 years old and I’m a student of Biology and Marine Biology in Southampton, UK. It’s impossible to pinpoint when I fell in love with the ocean, however, I started my journey into marine biology 5 years ago with my first scuba dive. I have since dedicated my efforts towards exploring research and conservation, particularly inspired by a recent volunteering experience as a coral surveyor in Montserrat during my gap year. Alongside my studies, I am currently working with companies and non-profit organisations in the UK and US in efforts ranging from marine engineering to grassroot community impact on the protection of shark and ray species, and the fight against plastic debris. In the future, I hope to continue to dive further (pun intended) into the research of global marine ecosystems, with a personal emphasis on its primary production by phytoplankton, algal and seagrass populations. I am fascinated by the unique connection every marine species has with each other and the water, so the potential of applying this understanding to the protection of higher species such as sharks and marine mammals is incredibly exciting.
